This is the most comprehensive collection of geckos you could ever possibly encounter as a hobbyist. While you may not be able to identify just any gecko through the book's collection of photographs, it contains a host of information about hundreds of gecko species.
It is surprising how much information is offered in the little space taken. Abbreviations for habits and habitats, subspecies, range, numbers referring to enclosure types (covered earlier in the book), maximum size and any additional notes are presented in a neat, table format with the gecko's scientific name. For example, the common leopard gecko, Eublepharis macularius, ranges through Afghanistan, Pakistan and western India, is a terrestrial species living in arid regions with intense sunlight, requires a rocky desert habitat, and reaches over 250mm in total length. This information is provided in a single line of the table!
However, because it is translated from German, the sentence structure and vocabulary is occasionally awkward. Also, in the species tables section, there is a small error: RP, rupicolous (rock-dwelling) species are instead noted as FE.
