Book Review

Green Iguana: The Ultimate Owner's Manual by James W. Hatfield III
By Christina Miller - Herptiles.net (http://www.herptiles.net)
2004 (2nd ed.). Dunthorpe Press. 655 pages. ISBN: 1883463505.

This book can easily claim the title of "best book about captive green iguanas." It provides a huge amount of vital information, not only from the author's experiences, but from hundreds of iguana owners across the globe that contributed to the book. It's unique format really must be read to be appreciated, as it combines the scientific accuracy needed to discuss the care of this complex species with a novel-like way of progressing through each topic.

This book provides excellent information to new and potential keepers, as well as current iguana owners and even general reptile enthusiasts. It can really discourage those who aren't fully prepared to take care of a giant green iguana, as it is direct and to-the-point about the special needs of these reptiles. The author's dedication to the book is proven by the release of the second edition, with updated text and plenty more photographs. More about the book, including a table of contents, can be seen at the book's website, www.iguana.com. If you keep green iguanas as pets, are thinking about buying an iguana, already have an iguana, or just like lizards in general, this book is an excellent investment. It is one of the few reptile books I think deserves a five-on-five.
